Senior Production Editor

Zando is seeking a Senior Production Editor to be responsible for handling the process from manuscript to print-ready files for a variety of original genre fiction titles (including rush / crash titles) and reprints. There will also be opportunities for editorial work. They will work closely with editorial, design, managing editorial, and production.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who has strong analytical skills, communicates clearly, and will be an active participant in a small and collaborative team. They will manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively and are comfortable asking for help when needed. An interest in modern romance genres is a plus!

Key Responsibilities

  • Hiring and assessing the work of freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, cold readers, and indexers.
  • Preparing initial text transmittals with the managing editor.
  • Working closely with the editorial, managing editorial, production, and design teams to see titles through to on-time completion.
  • Reviewing and collating author and proofreader edits, which may include additional copyediting, fact-checking, queries to the editor and author, and gathering notes for the designer/compositor.
  • Copyediting and proofreading supplementary material, such as front matter, back matter, cover copy, promotional material, galleys, etc.
  • Routing and reviewing covers and jackets.

Qualifications

  • Required: Minimum of 5 years of book publishing experience in a production editorial or managing editorial role
  • Proven experience working on fiction titles
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
  • Strong copyediting and proofreading skills
  • General facility with modern copyediting style and an interest in inclusive language
  • Clear and diplomatic written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skill and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work successfully independently as well as part of a team
  • Proficiency with editing in Microsoft Word (esp. Track Changes) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with title management systems (we have Biblio)
  • Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and style sheet construction

 

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000
